OKLAHOMA

Head Coach Bob Stoops

On the game:
"I like the fact that we played a good solid game and corrected some basic fundamental mistakes from the last game. It's a good sign of progress. It's good to see us execute well and play like we should regardless of our opponent. It's a good win. It's good for our chemistry. I told the guys earlier that I didn't care who we were playing this week; the bottom line was we need to execute better and concentrate. We have to play to our potential. We understand that we'll get to see bigger and more physical people as we go."

On the play of OU's freshmen:
"We're proud of them. I love the energy of our young class. They have good attitudes. I like the way they're working. They're talented. It's exciting to see all those young, true freshman doing so well."

On true freshman quarterback Paul Thompson:
"Playing Paul Thompson was necessary. We felt like it was the right thing to do. The reason to play him was to get him experience. He needs experience handling the ball, as well as being able to throw it, read plays and make checks. I like what he did. The more you play, the more you get used to it. Paul will get better."

On quarterback Nate Hybl:
"Nate played very well. That doesn't surprise me. He throws the ball well and made some big plays. He's very sound and solid. We're proud of him."

On OU's running game:
"It was better than it was a week ago. We're improving it every week. We had good balance. The guys executed the run game in a better way. A lot of it is just blocking the right people and executing correctly. Hopefully, that's just something we'll keep building on."

On the weather delay:
"We treated it like it was halftime. We made some adjustments and got some things straight. Instead of sitting around, we stretched and kept them moving. The players were excited about playing in the rain and mud. I like how we came out of the locker room ready to play."

On turnovers:
"We're always trying to win the turnover battle and today we did."

Sophomore Offensive Tackle Jammal Brown

On the game:
"We really put the pass and run game together today. Running the ball is fun because it's what we like to do, but we can always get better. Nate (Hybl) hung in there today and made really good calls."

Freshman Quarterback Paul Thompson

"College football is a lot different than high school and you could probably tell I was nervous when I first went in. I was so excited to play today and really wanted to get a touchdown in my first game. The offensive line did a great job while I was in there."

Freshman Defensive Back Micheal Hawkins

"Coach told me to break on the ball. I did and just took off with it. Playing in college is so amazing and the fans are absolutely incredible. We really appreciate them."

Junior Linebacker Teddy Lehman

"We had so many missed assignments last week and we wanted to improve this week. Our overall play was much better tonight."

"The weather delay wasn't bad because we came in the locker room and treated it like a halftime. Coach Stoops came in and got us fired up to go out and play again."

UTEP

Head Coach Gary Nord

"Oklahoma has an outstanding football team. We helped them out by turning the ball over. I thought that the rain was going to help us out. They are so talented and have so much speed that we could not match up with them speed-wise. Bob Stoops and his staff have done an outstanding job and I think that they are one of the top teams in the country this year."

On OU's defense:
"Their defense is outstanding. They have as much speed out on the field that I've ever coached against. They are unbelievably quick."

On OU running back Quentin Griffin:
"Every time he touches the ball he has a chance to go the distance. Their ability to run is something scary to face."

Sophomore Quarterback Jon Schaper

"We just have to get ready for next week when it counts against Hawaii. We just have to forget this game. We still have a long season left to play."

On UTEP's mindset going into halftime:
"Going into halftime we really wanted to score. Everyone just kept talking about scoring. Scoring against this group would have given our guys some momentum going into next week."

Junior Cornerback Alex Ross

"I think we matched up pretty well with them. We just killed ourselves with turnovers."
