The Oklahoma volleyball team fell to 0-2 on the season after losing in three sets to host Loyola Marymount (2-0) in the LMU Invitational (Los Angeles, Calif.) Saturday afternoon. LMU pulled out a close first set at 30-25 and then rolled to 30-20 victories in the final two sets.
Oklahoma improved from their showing in a loss to Duke on Friday. After posting a hitting percentage of .079 against Duke, Oklahoma's percentage increased dramatically to .247 against LMU.
The Sooners were once again led by senior transfer Megan O'Connell (Illinois State) who had a match high 11 kills and .450 hitting percentage. Sheena Werling, a redshirt freshman, and sophomore Gretchen French turned in solid performances recording seven and five kills each.
Loyola Marymount won the game on the offensive attack, outhitting OU .349 to .247 percentage wise. Oklahoma had 12 less kills in the match, recording 31 as opposed to LMU's 43. Another trend that continued for OU from the first game against Duke, was a significant disparity in service aces. Saturday LMU had nine compared to the Sooners' three.
