Norman, Okla. - Oklahoma's football team did not play last week, but Florida State's close brush in Iowa State propelled the Sooners into a tie with Miami for the top spot in the Associated Press' weekly football poll.

The Sooners No. 2 last week, garnered additional voting points after FSU slipped two spots, from No. 3 to No. 5, following a 38-31 victory over Iowa State.

"Some people must have snuck in to see how well we played in practice last week," deadpanned OU head coach Bob Stoops. "I didn't realize anybody had done that.

"In all seriousness, we get a positive feeling knowing that people view our program in this kind of light and we're proud that Oklahoma football is again considered among the best in college football. We know we have to go out and actually earn that respect again this season and we get a chance to start doing that this week when we play at Tulsa."

OU opens Friday night at Tulsa. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. The game will air on ESPN and the Sooner Radio Network.
