Lehman On Butkus Watch List

Norman, Okla. - Oklahoma linebacker Teddy Lehman has been named to the preseason watch list for the Butkus Award, which is presented annually to the top linebacker in college football. The Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando, Fla., sponsors the honor.

OU's Rocky Calmus won the award last season from the weakside linebacker position. Lehman, the starter in the middle last season, moved to the weakside spot during spring drills and is slated to be in the starting lineup.

Lehman was No. 3 on the team in total tackles last season with 83, which is tops among the returning Sooners. He had 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, three pass deflections, one forced fumble and one pass interception, which returned for a touchdown against Texas.

The 6-2, 235-pounder hails from Fort Gibson, Okla.

An OU player has won the Butkus Award three times in its 17-year history. Brian Bosworth was the honoree in the first two years of the award's existence, 1985 and 1986.
