Norman, Okla. - Oklahoma closed its preseason practice for the first time this season Wednesday afternoon as preparation continued for the upcoming year.
"We started working trick plays and some game preparation, so this was a good time to start sharpening our focus," said OU head coach Bob Stoops. This was a good practice, one of our better ones."
Stoops said the viewing of tape from Tuesday's practice provided few revelations.
"It was about what I thought it was," he said. "There were some positives in there. We see some breakdowns that we'll learn from. I'm very encouraged. I like what we're doing. We've got a chance to be pretty decent.
In the afternoon, the Sooners were back in full pads. Thursday will be the final day of two-a-day practices for OU. The team will practice once on Friday before taking Saturday off. Practices resume Sunday and continue through the season opener at Tulsa on Friday, Aug. 30.
* RB Quentin Griffin was announced as one of 40 running backs on the watch list for the Doak Walker Award. * QB Brent Rawls was back in attendance at practice for the first time after undergoing surgery on ligament damage in his right thumb. * DT Kory Klein, who suffered a bruised thigh in Wednesday's scrimmage, did not practice Wednesday, but Stoops said Klein could return as soon as Thursday. "He wanted to go back into the scrimmage (Tuesday)," Stoops said. * Brandon Everage was back for Wednesday afternoon's workout after missing some time with a sore shoulder.
