Norman, Okla. - The broadcast team for 2002 radio broadcasts of University of Oklahoma football games was finalized today when Mark Rodgers was announced as the new sideline commentator. He joins play-by-play announcer Bob Barry, Sr., and color analyst Merv Johnson on the broadcasts that reach some 30 affiliates on the Sooner Radio Network.
Rodgers is in his second year as a sports anchor and reporter at KWTV, the CBS affiliate in Oklahoma City. He has published the Oklahoma Pigskin Preview since 1995.
"As someone who grew up in Oklahoma and listened to OU football, it's a great honor and privilege to be a part of it as a broadcaster on the network," Rodgers said. "It will be great to working with Bob and Merv. Bob is such a part of broadcasting in Oklahoma and is someone I've listened to for a long time. Merv was part of those great teams under Coach Switzer and brings that knowledge to the broadcasts."
Rodgers added that this particular team is one that has him looking forward to the season.
"I'm really excited about the upcoming season," he said. "This team has a chance to be so good. I can't wait to experience that atmosphere at Owen Field and in some of the other places OU plays."
Barry, who will be in his 24th year of calling Sooner action, said he was pleased to welcome Rodgers to the broadcast team.
"Mark has a great feel for broadcasting and he's a very hard worker," said Barry. "He is an up and coming sportscaster who will add a great deal through his knowledge of broadcasting and the game in general."
Rodgers, a native of Blackwell, Okla., graduated from OU in 1992 with a degree in political science.
