Sooners Ranked No. 1 By TSN

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma's football team has been ranked No. 1 in a preseason ranking released by The Sporting News. TSN's College Football Editor Tom Dienhart coordinated the preseason football announcements.

OU was followed in the ranking by Florida State at No. 2, Texas at No. 3, Miami (Fla.) at No. 4 and Georgia at No. 5. Another OU opponent, Colorado, was No. 9.

In addition, 10 Sooners were named among the top 25 players at their positions by TSN. Trent Smith was tabbed the No. 1 tight end, Jimmy Wilkerson the No. 1 defensive end, Derrick strait the No. 3 cornerback, Tommie Harris the No. 4 defensive lineman, Vince Carter the No. 7 center, Brandon Everage the No. 15 free safety, Teddy Lehman the No. 17 outside linebacker, Jason White the No. 19 quarterback, Quentin Griffin the No. 24 running back, and Andre Woolfolk the No. 24 cornerback.

TSN ranked the OU wide receivers No. 3 in the nation, the offensive backfield No. 4, the defensive line No. 2, the linebackers No. 9 and the secondary No. 5.

Preseason All-Big 12 selections included Carter and Smith on the first-team offense and Everage, Harris, Strait and Wilkerson on defense. Griffin and offensive tackle Jerod Fields were second-team selections.

Wilkerson was named TSN's Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, while transfer linebacker Pasha Jackson snagged the Defensive Newcomer of the Year title.
