NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma junior Brett Covey captured top honors on the rings at the 2002 Canadian National Gymnastics Championships in Winnipeg, MB, earlier this week. Covey posted a winning score of 9.650 in the event.
Covey assisted the Sooners to their fourth NCAA Championship and an overall record of 22-1 this past season. He also won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation individual championship on the rings with a career-best and school-record 9.900 performance in Colorado Springs, Colo. Covey was tabbed as an All-American on the rings as a sophomore and finished 13th in the event at the 2000 Canadian National Gymnastics Championships, barely missing a spot on the Canadian National Team.
Covey will be one of OU's top returners next season as the Sooners defend their 2002 National Championships.
