Final StatsQuotes

  • Jason Fransz pounded out three hits, including a two-run homer to lead the Oklahoma Sooners to a 9-1 victory over the Texas A&M Aggies in the second winner's bracket game Thursday night.

  • The victory puts the Sooners into the Saturday afternoon game at 1 p.m. against the winner of the Friday night contest between Texas and Texas A&M. Those two teams square off at 7 p.m. for the right to continue in the tournament.

  • Oklahoma got things started in the opening inning as Charlie Frasier blasted a two-run homer into the right field Home Run porch for a quick 2-0 Sooner lead. The home run was Frasier's 11th of the season off Texas A&M starter Ryan Warpinski.

  • The Aggies responded with a leadoff homer by Eric Reed off OU starter Mark Roberts. The home run was the first career home run for the Monticello, Ark. junior.

  • In the third, the Sooners scored on a base hit by left fielder Jason Fransz and a fielding error by A&M shortstop Matt Alexander. Chris Jakubauskas then doubled off the left center field wall, scoring Eddie Cornejo to increase the OU lead to 4-1.

  • The Sooners pushed across another run on a sacrifice bunt by Cornejo to score designated hitter Denver Kitch from third. Frasier then ripped a double down the left field line to drive in his second and third runs of the game to increase the Sooner lead 7-1. Oklahoma pounded out nine hits in the first four innings - three of those being for extra bases (2 doubles and a home run).

  • Fransz picked up his third hit of the game - a two-run homer over the right field wall to give Oklahoma a 9-1 lead. The blast was Fransz's 15th home run of the season and 54th and 55th runs batted in for the Corona, Calif. junior.

  • Cornejo extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a single in the top of the first.

  • Mark Roberts picked up the victory, his second in Big 12 Tournament play. He pitched a complete game last year against Texas Tech.

  • The game was typical of a post-season game between the two schools. Only the 1998 game won by Texas A&M 4-3 has been close. In the other five games, the winner has scored either 9 or 10 runs.

  • The one run was the lowest run total by the Aggies in Big 12 Tournament play. The previous low was 3 in a 12-3 loss to Baylor in the 2000 Big 12 Tournament.

  • The postseason record between OU and Texas A&M is now tied at 3-3.
