OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - At the Women's College World Series pre-tournament banquet Wednesday evening, Oklahoma softball first baseman Christina Enea was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America team as a third team utility player selection. Enea capped off one of the best Sooner freshman campaigns in recent history in which she led the team for the majority of the season in hitting and finished with a Big 12 Conference best 57 RBI and 19 doubles. Her overall stats rounded out with a .354 batting average, eight home runs and 68 runs scored. Her All-American accolade comes on the heels of a first team All-Midwest Region pick and a first team All-Big 12 selection. Enea is the first Oklahoma freshman to garner All-American honors and the 15th all-time selection for the program.
After serving the first half of the season as the team's starting catcher, Enea ended the season as the starter at first base. The Woodland Hills, Calif., native fielded both of her positions well as she posted a combined .995 fielding percentage. Offensively, her 11-game hitting streak, in which she batted .533 with seven runs scored and 16 RBI, was a team best. Some of her biggest moments this year included driving in the winning runs in both games of the Bedlam Series versus Oklahoma State.
Enea and the 13th-ranked Sooners face the fifth-ranked California Golden Bears tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in their Women's College World Series opener. The game can be seen live on ESPN.
