Jay Norvell was hired as Oklahoma's receivers coach following the 2001 season, but has already resigned the position to join the coaching staff with the Oakland Raiders. He spent the previous four seasons as the receivers coach for the Indianapolis Colts.
"We thought Jay was interested in a return to the college level, but he obviously still had a desire to coach in the NFL," said OU head coach Bob Stoops. "We understand that and wish Jay the best."
Stoops has begun the process of hiring a replacement.
"We had several quality coaches interested in this job when it was open before and I am sure we will hire a good coach," he said. "I don't really have a timetable. Sooner is better, but the most important thing is hiring the right person."
Norvell was hired when Steve Spurrier, Jr., resigned to join the coaching staff of the Washington Redskins.
