Men's Gymnasts Place Four In Top Six At The Winter Cup Finals

    NORMAN, Okla. - In the individual event finals at the 2002 Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, members of the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team placed in the top six of five events on Saturday, Feb. 9, at The Sports Center in the All American Sports Park. The Sooners placed in every event but the parallel bars.

    Junior Daniel Furney, who qualified for a spot on the U.S. National Gymnastics Team on Friday, placed second on the vault (9.187) and third on the high bar (8.400) to round out two days of competition. Junior Josh Landis notched a third place finish on both the floor exercise (8.850) and pommel horse (8.750).

    Also for the Sooners, sophomore Jock Stevens placed sixth on the floor exercise (7.600), while freshman David Henderson placed sixth on the rings (8.250).

    Oklahoma returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 16, against defending national champion Ohio State and Illinois in Columbus, Ohio, at 6 p.m. CST. Illinois is currently the second-ranked team in the country behind the Sooners, while Ohio State is the seventh-ranked school, according to the GymInfo national rankings.
