Norman, Okla. - In just 11 months, Oklahoma has sold all 27 luxury suites and 2,252 exterior club seats currently under construction at Memorial Stadium. A waiting list of some 8,000 general public accounts and Sooner Club members are in line for the 5,000 upper deck seats that will go on sale later, ensuring that all of the new seating at the facility will be filled for the 2003 season.
"The time frame in which the suites and club seats were sold is unheard of in intercollegiate athletics," said OU Athletics Director Joe Castiglione. "This is a real tribute to those who are so willing to support our program and to our development staff for bringing those people closer to Sooner Athletics with a sound plan. We have a tremendous sense of accomplishment knowing that we can make this announcement prior to the completion of construction."
The suites, which measure 430 square feet each, are built to accommodate 18 patrons. Lease terms range from 3-7 years with an annual gift commitment of between $50,000-$65,000 depending on location. The last of the suites was sold in August, prior to the beginning of the 2002 season. Another 27 suites can be added to the project once commitments are received for 10 additional suites.
The club seats, part of the 13,000 square foot Kerr-McGee Stadium Club, feature wide chairbacks and other amenities such as enhanced concessions, video screens and lounge seating. The annual gift commitment for those seats ranges between $1,000-$1,500, plus the cost of the season ticket. The campaign to sell those seats began in February of 2002 and concluded prior to the Nov. 23 Texas Tech game.
Oklahoma Memorial Stadium presently has a seating capacity of 72,765. When the construction is completed, the facility will seat approximately 81,000.
