Assistant Guard Young Reaches Semis At World Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma men's gymnastics assistant coach Guard Young reached the event semifinals on the floor excercise Thursday at the World Gymnastics Championships in Decrebon, Hungary. Senior Brett Covey failed to advance past the qualifying round on the still rings.

Young random was selected at random to be the first competitor of the meet and scored a 9.387, which placed him 15th among 63 competitors. Young was one of 16 gymnasts to make the semifinals on the event.

Covey, who is competing for the Canadian National Team, scored a 8.900 on the still rings which placed him 37th out of 53 competitors. Covey missed on a strength move, which hurt his start value and lowered his final score.

The world championship semifinals will take place on Saturday with the event finals on Sunday.
