Five Sooners on Verizon All-District Academic Squad

Norman, Okla. - Five Oklahoma Sooners, including three first-team selections, are among the Verizon Academic All-District VI Football team announced today. Only Mississippi could match OU's five honorees on the team.

Running back Renaldo Works, center Vince Carter and defensive end Jonathan Jackson all earned first-team honors, while quarterback Nate Hybl and defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek were second-team selections.

Works, a junior, carries a 3.54 grade point average in information systems, while Carter, a sophomore, as a 3.44 and Jackson, a sophomore, carry a 3.67, both in university studies. Hybl, a senior, who ranks No. 9 in Big 12 history with 30 career touchdown passes, had a 3.52 GPA in marketing and Dvoracek, a sophomore, carries a 3.46 in university studies.

Works is a repeat all-district selection. The first-team picks now advance in the balloting process to be considered for the Academic All-America honor.

The all-district team is voted on by sports information directors within the district. District VI is comprised of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas. Student-athletes from Division I-A and I-AA teams are eligible in the voting process.
