Sooners Travel North To Face Colorado And Nebraska

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma soccer team travels to Boulder to face the Colorado Buffaloes on Friday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. Oklahoma's road stretch continues at Lincoln, Neb., on Sunday, Oct. 27 with a game against the Cornhuskers at 1 p.m.

The Sooners fell to 4-3 in the Big 12 and 11-5 overall with home losses to conference leaders Texas and Texas A&M over the weekend. On Friday night, Oklahoma battled No. 4 Texas into the second half but a late trio of Longhorn scores sealed the game, 3-0. With the win, Texas snapped an eight-game win streak for OU at John Crain Field and earned its first-ever victory in Norman.

On Sunday, Texas A&M used a late goal by Emma Smith in the 85th minute to break a scoreless game and escape from Norman with a 1-0 win. Off assists from Kristen Strutz and Linsey Woodard, Smith knocked the ball past OU keeper Catherine Wade at 84:15 for the lone score of the game.

Game 17 Preview: Oklahoma at Colorado
Colorado tied Baylor, 1-1, and defeated Texas Tech, 2-0, to improve to 7-6-2 overall and 2-3-2 in Big 12 play last weekend. The Buffaloes are led by freshman midfielder Fran Munnelly with 16 points on six goals and four assists. Sophomore forward Nicholle Taylor has three goals and four assists (10 points) while senior forward Lindsay Galas has three goals and two assists (eight points).

At goalkeeper, CU alternates between senior Sara Erskine and freshman Jeanne Rankin. Erskine (712:00 minutes) has allowed nine goals for a GAA of 1.14 and 37 saves (.804). Rankin (671:11) has allowed 12 goals for a GAA of 1.61 and 25 saves (.676).

Oklahoma leads the series with the Buffaloes, 3-2. The Sooners have won the last three consecutive meetings with a combined score of 9-2. Last season in Norman, OU blanked Colorado, 4-0, on October 7.

Game 18 Preview: Oklahoma at No. 25 Nebraska
No. 25 Nebraska planted 4-0 wins on Texas Tech and Baylor over the weekend. The Huskers have recorded four straight shutouts to improve their record to 9-4-3 and 4-2-1 in Big 12 Conference play. The Huskers are led by a trio of offensive stars. Senior forward Christine Latham has compiled 19 points over the season on eight goals and three assists. Freshman forward Nikki Baker follows with 16 points (seven goals, two assists) and senior forward Kori Saunders has 15 points (seven goals, one assist).

In the box, junior goalkeeper Erin Miller has played all 1,500 minutes of Nebraska's season. She's allowed 15 goals for an outstanding 0.90 goals-against average and made 75 saves (.833). Miller has nine shutouts on the season.

Nebraska has a commanding 5-1 lead in the series with OU's lone win in 1998 (OU 2, NU 1 in Lincoln, Neb.). Last year, Nebraska handed the Sooners a 2-0 shutout in Norman on October 21.

Womack Extends Record
Junior forward Logan Womack recorded the first hat trick in Oklahoma soccer history with her three scores against Big 12 rival Baylor on Sept. 27. Womack's final score gave her the career goals record at OU with 27, moving her past former Sooner Jonette Coquat (26). Womack has eight goals so far this season to push her career total to 28.

Dawson's Peak
Senior forward Krissy Dawson is tied with teammate Shannon Wing and former Sooner Jonette Coquat for the Oklahoma career assists record with 15. Dawson leads the team with eight assists this season and 22 points.

Wingin' It
Senior Shannon Wing is tied for the OU career assists record with 15. She's contributed seven assists and two goals this season. Wing has 16 starts in 16 games for 2002, extending her streak to 75-straight starts for OU over the past four seasons.

Mac Attack
Freshman Lauren MacIver leads all newcomers at Oklahoma with 12 points for the Sooners this season (four goals, four assists). MacIver scored twice against Big 12 rival Texas Tech for her first multiple goal game at OU.

Nelson Making Impact
Freshman Becky Nelson has 10 points this season including four goals and two assists. She ranks fifth on the team in shots and scored her first multiple-goal game in a 2-0 Sooner win at Kansas on Oct. 13.

Tough Schedule
Oklahoma's 2002 schedule includes five teams ranked in the current NSCAA/adidas National Rankings. Stanford is No. 1 while Texas is ranked third with Santa Clara fourth, Texas A&M sixth and Nebraska 25th.

Big 12 Rankings
The Oklahoma Sooners remain sixth in the latest NSCAA/Adidas Central rankings. Five additional Big 12 teams are ranked including No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Texas A&M and No. 5 Nebraska. Kansas and Missouri are both tied for eighth. In the national rankings, Texas holds down the No. 3 spot with Texas A&M at No. 6. Nebraska rounds out the poll at No. 25.

Head Coach Randy Evans
Randy Evans is in his fourth year as head coach of the Oklahoma soccer program. Evans has the 2002 Sooners at 11-5-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the Big 12 Conference.

Prior to this season, he coordinated the strongest season in OU's young soccer history last year. The Sooners won a school-record 11 games while compiling a stellar 8-1-1 record at home and notched their first victories ever over conference rivals Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Missouri. OU came within a goal of upsetting Texas A&M -- the eventual tournament champion -- in its second consecutive appearance in the Big 12 Conference Tournament.

Evans also directed some outstanding individual performances in his third season. Forward Logan Womack became the first OU player to be named first team All-Big 12 while goalkeeper Catherine Wade and defender Christen Secrest garnered Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors. Twelve OU soccer student-athletes were also named Academic All-Big 12 selections.
