NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma volleyball team (1-5) dropped three close games (30-27, 30-28 and 31-29) to the University of Wyoming at the Cowgirl Classic in Laramie, Wyo., in front of a crowd of 556.
The Sooners just didn't have enough to pull out a win, losing by less than three points in every game. Junior Denise Griffin led the Sooners with 12 kills, hitting .231. Junior Lindsay Hoyt recoded 10 kills and a team-high nine digs. Freshman Candice Woods reached for a team-high five blocks (one block solo, four block assists).
Oklahoma and Wyoming were virtually even at the net. OU had 45 kills and 30 errors on 110 attempts while Wyoming had 44 kills and 27 errors on 110 attempts. Junior Jessica Barney led the Sooners in assists with 37 compared to Wyoming's 36.
OU will play a 9:30 a.m. match against Texas Arlington tomorrow followed by a 5:00 p.m. match with Idaho State at the MultiPurpose Gym to conclude tournament play.
The Sooners open conference action at home at 7 p.m., Sept. 12, with Texas A&M. The Aggies are currently ranked No. 18 in the USA Today/AVCA Top 25 coaches poll.
