NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-11, 1-2 Big 12) dropped its second league match to Missouri (10-2, 2-2 Big 12) tonight at the Hearnes Center 3-1 (18-30, 30-22, 26-30, 20-30) in front of a season-high 1,416 spectators.
The Sooners hit a disappointing -.057 in the first game but rebounded in games two through four with .209, .275 and .211 hitting percentages while Missouri hit .135 in .100 in the first two games, respectively, but managed to rebound in the third and fourth game hitting in the .326 and .390, respectively.
Freshman middle blocker Candice Woods led the Sooners with a career and season-high .476 hitting percentage with 12 kills and two errors on 21 attempts. Sophomore Logan Pierce had a team and career-high 15 kills while junior Lindsay Hoyt added nine kills.
For the Tigers, Mary Lauren Smith had a match-high 20 kills followed by Christi Myers with 18. Defensively, the Tigers outhustled the Sooners with 75 digs compared to OU's 54. Oklahoma's Hoyt and junior Denise Griffin both had 12 digs followed by freshman Emily Kincaid with a career-high 10 digs.
The Sooners return to action on Oct. 3 against Texas at the Howard McCasland Field House. Match time with the No. 23 Longhorns is set for 7 p.m.
