NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma volleyball team (1-3) lost a four-game match to host Sam Houston State, 24-30, 30-21, 30-22, 30-24, Saturday night in Huntsville, Texas. The Sooners were lead by sophomore outside hitter Logan Pierce (Durango, Colo.). Pierce landed a team-best 10 kills and hustled for a tournament-best 16 digs, earning her all-tournament honors.

Junior outside hitter Lindsay Hoyt (Grapevine, Texas) and sophomore outside hitter Christina Barlow (Choctaw, Okla.) followed with 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Hoyt also added nine kills and a match-best three service aces. Redshirt-freshman Alexia McWhinney (Katy, Texas) had eight spikes and a match-best six blocks (five assisted and one solo) while freshman middle blocker Candice Woods (Moosomin, SK, Canada) took part in five blocks and had two service aces.

"Sam Houston State was the most competitive team in the tournament," said OU Head Coach Kalani Mahi. "This match was fun to watch because both teams was battling and competing with each serve.

This was a good opening tournament for us. Now we know what we must improve on as a team and individually. It also taught us a lot about ourselves."

As a team, the Sooners hustled for 62 digs compared to the Bearkats' 58. OU also collected 12 total blocks to SHS' 9.5. However, OU hit a tournament low .160 (45k, 21e, 150ta) while Sam Houston State hit a .289 (60k-34e-90ta) for the match.

The Sooners return to action next weekend as one of five teams competing in the Wyoming Cowgirls Classic in Laramie, Wyo. OU opens the tournament against Wake Forest on Friday, Sept. 7 at 2:30 p.m.
