NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma football squad practiced twice on Monday and continues to focus on improving in the areas of fundamentals and overall competition. Each day, head coach Bob Stoops and his coaching staff work on throwing more at the players in an attempt to determine who has the potential to contribute and, for some, on which side of the ball they're going to play.
In an attempt to bolster depth in the secondary, junior Andre Woolfolk continues to practice at both wide receiver and cornerback and it's still unknown on which side of the ball he will play when the season begins Aug. 25 against North Carolina. He worked out on offense Monday morning and on defense during the evening session.
"He's just an exceptional athlete," said Stoops of Woolfolk. "He's the best conditioned player we have, he's the fastest player and when he gets out there, he's such a good athlete that it's really pretty easy for him to do both. He's really looked very good at everything he's done so far. Whatever we need, whatever is necessary to win and however he can maximize his potential, that's where he'll be."
Stoops was also very pleased with senior punter Jeff Ferguson and senior kicker Tim Duncan, both preseason All-Big 12 selections.
"They're really impressive and both have had great summers," said Stoops of his specialists. "They're a big bonus for us. They've been more consistent and have picked it up, and hopefully, that will be a bigger plus for us this year."
Again, the squad will work out twice on Tuesday with one session at 8 a.m. and the other at 6 p.m. Fans will have a chance to see the Sooners in action on Saturday evening as the team will scrimmage at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Prior to that, Fan Appreciation Day will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on the practice fields south of the stadium.
