NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma football team continued its preparations for the coming season as it worked out for over two hours on Sunday at the OU Intramural Fields. The squad also took part in strength and conditioning tests Sunday morning, followed by a non-denominational church service and position meetings.
Among the conditioning tests the players participated in were the 40-yard dash, vertical leap and the shuttle test for quickness. Head coach Bob Stoops was very excited about the results of the tests, and praised Jerry Schmidt and the strength and conditioning staff.
"I'm just really impressed with the speed of everybody and the hustle they show in moving around and executing," said Stoops. "They're understanding assignments and it's been good to watch."
Today's practice served as a continuation of Saturday's workouts, where members of the squad dealt with their respective position coaches for a majority of the practice, then the offense and defense engaged in head-to-head drills to wrap up the session.
"It was probably an even better practice than yesterday," said Stoops. "It was very efficient and sharp. It's been fun to watch the quarterbacks to see how they're executing and delivering the ball to the right people. We're looking at them critically every day and we're constantly evaluating every other position as well."
The squad begins two-a-day workouts Monday, with practices at 8 a.m. and 6:10 p.m. That schedule will hold through the week and Fan Appreciation Day will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon. The Sooners will then hold an open scrimmage at Memorial Stadium beginning at 6:30 p.m.
