NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops, who has been away from his team for the last three days, returned Wednesday and was on hand for the last 30 minutes of the Sooners' practice.
Stoops had been out of town as one of his children underwent a medical procedure.
"It's good to be back," Stoops said. "It was very difficult to leave my child, but my wife is still there and we're seeing a strong recovery. We appreciate all the concerns and prayers. They all have been answered."
Stoops said he knew his team was in good hands with his coaching staff.
"Those coaches are very professional and they're sharp," he said. "They don't need me to practice. I like to think that I've got a role in our approach and in our mindset and I'm very excited for this game and anxious to get the season started."
Wednesday's practice was shortened by approximately 15 minutes when lightning was spotted near the practice fields.
