NORMAN, Okla. - Members of the University of Oklahoma's 47-game football winning streak teams from 1953-1957 have been invited back to campus for a reunion and celebration of their legendary feat. The event will take place the weekend of Sept. 14-15, culminating in a recognition ceremony at halftime of the OU-Tulsa game on Sept. 15.

"This special group of men remain the standard-bearers of championship football," said OU Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione. "Their magnificent run of victories is without question the most impressive feat ever produced at this level of collegiate football. We are honored to have them back on campus to commemorate what they accomplished as Sooners."

Team members will gather on Friday, Sept. 14 for a reception and banquet at the Jack Santee Lounge inside Memorial Stadium. Prior to their recognition on Saturday evening, the team will take a special tour of the football facilities, then be guests at the Sooner Club tent during normal pre-game festivities east of the stadium.

The reunion follows similar celebrations of national championship teams over the past two years. In 1999, members of the 1974 and 1975 football teams gathered at Owen Field, while the 1985 and 1950 teams were honored at separate events in 2000. The athletic department has also organized national championship reunions for the 1951 baseball team, 1989 men's golf team and 1991 men's gymnastics team.
