NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma football squad went through another round of two-a-day practices Friday and is looking forward to Saturday's Fan Appreciation Day, as well as the scrimmage planned for Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium. OU head coach Bob Stoops was again pleased with the hustle and intensity demonstrated during the workouts and is looking forward to another positive scrimmage.
"Everybody's set to go, as far as I know," said Stoops of his squad. "We may do some ones (first team) versus ones, but probably a good bit of ones versus twos, too."
Friday saw two position changes, as sophomore Quentin Morgan, a transfer from the University of Washington, moved from his wide receiver position to the defensive secondary. True freshman Brett Rayl had been working at defensive end and is now with the offensive line.
"We're looking at Brett on the offensive line and he's excited about it," said Stoops. "He looks good there and I think it's going to be a good move for him."
Senior linebacker Rocky Calmus is viewing Saturday's scrimmage as a chance to improve and get the defensive unit focused and ready for the 2001 slate.
"We want to do a lot better than what we did (Wednesday night)," said the All-American and team captain. "We didn't seem too focused, so we just want to be more solid across the board. We need more concentration, plus better focus and intensity. We gave up too many stupid plays and we can't have that if we're going to be a good defense."
The team will hold Fan Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, which will give young fans a chance to interact with their favorite Sooners. Fans will be able to tour the Barry Switzer Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and then the 6:30 scrimmage will also be open to the public.
