Sooner Newcomers Continue Pre-Season Workouts

NORMAN, Okla. - The newest members of the Oklahoma football team took part in two practices Wednesday and will attend an academic orientation program before joining the Sooner veterans for Media Day on Friday.

The two Wednesday practices lasted approximately two hours each and the coaching staff put the players through their paces on a mostly individualized basis. The new Sooners split up into small groups and worked with their respective position coaches for the majority of both sessions. The intense Norman heat was again a factor as the players become oriented to the Oklahoma system, however the coaches said they couldn't be more pleased with the pace and physical nature of the workouts.

"Just from watching today," said head coach Bob Stoops, "I see a big difference from our first practices and it was impressive. The coaches are throwing a lot more at them, and they're responding and moving quickly. They've really learned a lot in these two days, and now they have a good feel for what we do. The group is very mature and I couldn't be more pleased with them."

The newcomers will not practice Thursday as they are taking part in academic orientation for most of the day. Members of the varsity squad must report by 3 p.m., and the full squad will participate in Media Day on Friday morning. Fans will be allowed to take pictures and get autographs from their favorite Sooners from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and are asked to park in lots to the east and south of the stadium.

The team will head back to work at the OU Intramural Fields at 4:15 on Saturday afternoon.
