Two Sooners Qualify for U.S. Gymnastics Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics assistant coach Guard Young and sophomore Jock Stevens have advanced to compete in the U.S. Gymnastics Championships held August 8 and 10 in Philadelphia. Young automatically qualified for the event as a member of the U.S. National Team while Stevens finished 11th among participants who were not automatically qualified to advance.

Young placed second in the all-around among gymnasts that were already qualified with a 50.75. He also finished second among automatic qualifiers on parallel bars (8.25) and third on both floor exercise (9.00) and still rings (8.75).

Stevens scored a 49.15 to place 11th. He placed in the top 10 on in two events - the horizontal bar (seventh, 8.50) and vault (10th, 9.00).
