NORMAN, Okla. - Not since Troy Aikman started for the Sooners back in their national championship season of 1985 has a quarterback commanded so much attention in Norman, Oklahoma, as Josh Heupel did in 2000. But where Aikman met with misfortune in only his third game that season suffering a broken leg against Miami, Heupel would go on to finish a perfect year with his Sooners, capping it off with a national championship and returning the team in spectacular fashion to the very pinnacle of the college elite.

Heupel's leadership and athleticism, along with the masterful performance of Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops, will be honored at this year's Dallas All Sports Association's Annual Awards Banquet at The Fairmont Hotel in Dallas June 18.

Heupel and Stoops will be in good company with the likes of The University of Texas Women's Freestyler Colleen Lann, who capped her distinguished swimming career with a first-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle at the Phillips 66 National Swimming Championships on March 31.

In addition to the Big 12 honorees, DASA will be recognizing distinguished professional sports figures including former Troy Aikman, Maverick's owner Mark Cuban, Maverick's coach Don Nelson, Dallas Cowboy Emmitt Smith, and Fox Sportscaster Craig James, among many others. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. on June 18 with a VIP reception starting at 6:00 p.m. Tables are priced at $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000 levels, with premium seating, VIP Reception access and event recognition at the $2,500 and $5,000 levels. Individual seats are available for $100. For more information contact DASA executive director Bob Melton at (972) 868-1518, or DASA president Bob Lilly, Jr. at (972) 776-8000.

Established in 1965 by Dallas businessman Field Scovell, The Dallas All Sports Association is a philanthropic non-for-profit organization committed to awarding recognition and scholarship grants to deserving individuals and groups.
