Sooners Complete Sweep Of Gents With 16-7 Victory

Norman, Okla. - The Oklahoma baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Centenary College with a commanding 16-7 win over the Gents Sunday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Junior starting pitcher Rocky Cherry became OU's all-time appearance leader with his 69th career outing as he lasted five innings for his seventh win of the season. Oklahoma improved to 19-28-1 overall and Centenary fell to 22-36-1 with the loss.

Every member of the Sooner starting lineup had a hit as the offense pounded out a collective 20 hits in the game, establishing a new season high. Five players ended the contest with multiple-hit and multiple-runs scored performances, while four of those players also recorded multiple-RBI efforts. Juniors Charlie Frasier (3-for-4) and Sergio Garcia (4-for-6) both finished the game a hit away from hitting for the cycle as Frasier lacked a triple and Garcia a single.

Garcia began the scoring in the first inning by nailing a two-run homer to left field, his first of a career-high four hits in the game. He then plated two more runs to tie a career-high four RBIs with a RBI-triple in the second inning and a RBI-double in the fifth frame.

Frasier's home run, a two-run blast and his second in the last two games, to right field in the fourth inning capped off a six-run frame as OU batted around the lineup. Frasier then forced Garcia home from third after drawing a bases loaded walk in the next inning.

The win for Cherry tied a career season-best which was established in 2000 and also tied a career-high eight strikeout effort. The Coppell, Texas, native gave up only five hits and one run in the game.

Oklahoma will wrap up its non-conference schedule Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park when Texas-Arlington heads to Norman.
