Women's Golf Team Members Earn All-Big 12 Honors

NORMAN, Okla. - Three University of Oklahoma women's golf team members were honored by the Big 12 today for their performances this year. Head Coach Carol Ludvigson was named Big 12 Coach of the Year, freshman Lisa Meldrum was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, and sophomore Allison Johnson and Meldrum were second-team all-conference selections.
For Ludvigson, who is in her 16th season as OU's head coach, it was her third conference coach-of-the-year award. She was also named Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1991 and 1995.
Meldrum hails from Montreal, Quebec, and has led the Sooners in four tournaments this year, including the Big 12 Championships that wrapped up today in Rhodes, Iowa. Her second- and third-round scores were the lowest in the field and helped her to a first-place finish (she lost on the first playoff hole). The true freshman also leads the squad with her 75.0 average on the year.
Johnson, who didn't begin playing golf until March 1997, has led the Sooners in six tournaments this year and boasts a 76.1 scoring average. The Amarillo, Texas, native has finished in second place in three of her last five tournaments.
