NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma senior Scott Kempenich has been awarded the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 for part-time or full-time postgraduate study at the university or professional school of his choice.
Kempenich, the starting right offensive tackle for the 2000 National Champion Sooners, was one of 29 student-athletes at all levels of the NCAA to win the award.
A native of Wagoner, Okla., Kempenich adds the scholarship to an array of honors that includes a 2000 Verizon All-Academic District VI Football first-team selection and a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team pick.
On the field, Kempenich was selected first-team All-Big 12 by the Houston Chronicle and third-team all-conference by the league coaches. As a freshman in 1997, he was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection.
Kempenich currently holds a 3.67 GPA while majoring in social studies education.
