OU Women's Golfers Tied For 10th At Big 12 Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's golf team, ranked 12th by Mastercard, is currently tied for 10th after one round of action at the 2001 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship in Harvester, Iowa. The Sooners shot a score of 351 (+63) to tie with tournament host Iowa State.

OU junior Allison Johnson and redshirt freshman Hope Edge are tied for 27th after shooting identical scores of 87 (+15) to lead the Sooners in the first round. One shot back is junior Jennifer Tannehill, who tied for 35th after carding an 88. Freshman Lisa Meldrum rounded out the scores for OU with an 89 to tie for 39th.

Junior Wendy Martin withdrew from first-round action because of an illness. While Martin cannot contend for the individual title, she is hoping to play in the final two rounds of play and her scores can still contribute to OU's final team score.

The Sooners will be looking to improve their standing when play resumes at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning at Harvester Golf Club.
