Sooners Claim Second At Verizon Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma lady golfers finished second at the Verizon "Mo"Morial Invitational at the Pine Forest Country Club in Houston. The Sooners finished play with a score of 919, just two strokes behind first place Indiana. Sophomore Allison Johnson led Oklahoma with scores of 74, 71 and 78. Claiming the individual title on the 6,032-yard, par-72 course was Christine Boucher of Kansas State with a score of 218. The Sooners, who are ranked 25th by Mastercard, tied with Texas A&M while beating Big 12 rivals Baylor, Kansas State, Kansas, Missouri and Texas Tech.
Freshman Lisa Meldrum improved her placing by shooting a 74 in the final round to move from 18th to 11th. Junior Wendy Martin shot a 232 for 18th place, while fellow junior Betsy Berry carded a 238 for a 33rd place finish. Tying for 38th place were junior Jennifer Tannehill and redshirt freshman Hope Edge who each shot rounds of 239.
The Sooners next tournament will be in Temecula, Calif., at the UCLA Invitational on March 12-13. The tournament will be played at the Menifee Lakes Country Club with 36 holes being played on Monday and play concluding on Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
