NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team defeated three schools Sunday at the Lanthrop and Gage Corvette Cup in Columbia, Mo. The Sooners (13-4) finished with a 195.075, upending Bowling Green (194.825), Missouri (193.075) and Texas Woman's University (191.350).
Sophomore Leticia Ishii and freshman Carla DeMartini tied Missouri's Ann Gietler for the top spot on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.850. Freshman Kasie Tamayo, the reigning Big 12 Gymnast of the Week, tied Missouri's Leah Gremaud for first place on the balance beam (9.900). The win was Tamayo's second consecutive on beam.
Ishii and junior Mariana Goncalves finished second and third in the all-around, respectively, with scores of 39.175 and 39.100. Marny Oestrang of Bowling Green won the all-around with a score of 39.350.
Oklahoma hosts its second meet of the year next Saturday at 7 p.m. when it faces No. 12 Ohio State. The meet, in conjunction with the men's competition against No. 3 Ohio State and Stanford, will take place at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.
