Women's Golf Places Fourth In Dr. Thompson Rainbow Tournament

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team concluded play in the Dr. Thompson Rainbow Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii, Thursday in fourth place. Oklahoma State claimed the tournament title, three strokes ahead of Arizona. Natalie Gulbis of Arizona won the individual title with a score of 216.
Freshman Lisa Meldrum fired a 220 for fourth place while junior Wendy Martin recorded a 226 and placed 10th. Junior Betsy Berry carded a 232 for 26th place while fellow junior Jennifer James, who competed as an individual, placed 29th with a score of 233. Sophomore Allison Johnson tied for 37th with a score of 236. Junior Marsha Gonzaga and redshirt freshman Hope Edge placed 46th and 63rd, respectively.
"This was a good field with Arizona, Oklahoma State and Louisiana State," said Meldrum. "I played really well, but there is always room for improvement."
OU returns home to host the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on Monday and Tuesday, April 9 and 10, at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course in Norman. The tournament will begin Monday morning with an 8:30 shotgun start.
