Oklahoma Captures Second Place At Pioneer Bruin Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's golf team finished in second place at the Pioneer Bruin Classic with a score of 879 at the Menefee Lakes Country Club. This is the second consecutive tournament that the Sooners captured runner-up honors, the previous tournament was the Verizon "Mo"Morial Invitational. Pepperdine claimed the tournament title for the second straight year.
Sophomore Allison Johnson shot even par after consistently shooting rounds of 73, 73 and 71. Junior Wendy Martin carded a 221 for 10th place, while junior Jennifer Tannehill added a stroke for 12th place. Freshman Lisa Meldrum carded a 223 for 16th place, while individual Hope Edge ended play with a 226 and a 24th place finish. Junior Betsy Berry placed 56th with a score of 233.
"I've been playing the best golf of my collegiate career at these last two tournaments," said Johnson. "I played with the girl that won the tournament and one of the ones that tied with me. I really played consistent, the course was good but the pin placements were hard."
The Sooners are scheduled to resume tournament action at the Dr. Thompson Wahine Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 27-29.
