NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team, which is ranked 25th by Mastercard, finished in third place at the Midwestern Invitational held at the Hyatt Bear Creek Golf Course in Dallas. OU finished the three-day tournament with a final-round score of 316 and a 924 total. Oklahoma bested 11th-ranked Northwestern, No. 14 Purdue and No. 24 Kent State. Oklahoma State claimed the tournament title with a 906 while Ohio State shot a 914 for second place. Mollie Fankhauser from Ohio State claimed the individual title with a score of 217.
Sophomore Allison Johnson led the Sooners with an eighth-place finish and a score of 227. Freshman Lisa Meldrum placed 14th with a 230 total. Junior Wendy Martin carded a 234, just two strokes ahead of fellow junior Jennifer Tannehill. Redshirt-freshman Hope Edge concluded play with a third-round score of 79.
"We really had a tough day today, nothing really went well for us, said OU head coach Carol Ludvigson. "We struggled around the greens and that really hurt our scoring today. We know that we need to work on our ball striking and putting for our next outing. We did very well regionally and Ohio State was the only team that really got ahead of us."
The Sooners' next tournament will be on March 5-6 at the GTE "Mo"Morial in Houston.
