Regents Award Stadium Contract

Norman, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents awarded a construction contract for the Memorial Stadium project, Thursday. FlintCo, Inc., of Oklahoma City entered the successful bid on a project that is not to exceed $54,073,682.00

The contract award includes all of the base proposal of work that incorporates the east side addition of 27 suites, 2300 new club seats, and an upper deck with 5,000 seats, replacement of all the stadium's existing seats, code upgrades, renovation of the north end zone academic and administrative center, and a new north end zone concourse expansion, brick facade, entry and site improvements.

The contract award may also include alternates for a new west side messanine with additional restrooms, concessions and other fan amenities, as well as improvement to the press box. The alternates are under review and will be added if funding is available.

Memorial Stadium's seating capacity, which is currently 72,765, will increase to approximately 81,000 when the project is completed prior to the 2003 season.

The project was organized and bid by use of a base proposal and alternates to allow for an initial construction award with the funds for the project. The Great Expectations capital campaign for the stadium and other facility improvements has raised $78 million to date. Fund-raising efforts are ongoing with a goal of $100 million.
