Final StatsQuotes

Nov. 3, 2001 - Norman, Okla.

  • Today's attendance was 74,911, giving Oklahoma its 15th straight sellout at home.
  • Jeff Ferguson had his 16th punt of the season downed inside the 20 early in the first quarter.
  • Tulsa LB Michael Dulaney, a native of Turpin, Okla., began his career at Oklahoma in 1998. As a true freshman, he played in eight games and was credited with 30 tackles. He transferred to TU, where he now starts as a junior.
  • Oklahoma tight end Trent Smith had nine catches, good for 104 yards in today's game. That gives him 34 catches over the past four games, an OU record. Eddie Hinton had 26 catches over a four-game span to close the 1968 season (against Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma State).
  • Smith now has 46 catches on the season, an Oklahoma single-season high for tight ends. He's also just the fifth Sooner to ever amass more than 45 receptions in a season.
  • Smith's 104 receiving yards today were a career high. His previous high was 96 yards in the 2000 Big 12 Championship game against Kansas State.
  • Freshman Brandon Jones made a spectacular debut as a punt returner in today's game. His first career punt return was a 28-yarder in the first quarter. Jones' 56-yard punt return in the fourth quarter was the longest OU punt return of the season.
  • Jones' 150 punt return yards were the second most in a game in school history. The record is held by J.T. Thatcher, who had 160 return yards vs. Arkansas State in 2000.
  • Jones also had his first career reception, an 11-yard catch in the third quarter. He had two catches for 16 yards in today's game.
  • Tim Duncan has now made six field goals in a row after battling a mid-season slump. He connected from 25 yards out in the first quarter, from 42 yards away in the second quarter and from 40 yards out in the fourth quarter.
  • Duncan's three field goals in today's game tied a career high. He had three against Air Force this season as well against Texas A&M in 1999.
  • Duncan's 42-yard field goal in the second quarter and his 40-yarder in the fourth were his seventh and eighth career field goals of 40-plus yards.
  • Oklahoma RB Quentin Griffin has now caught a pass in all 26 games of his Sooner career. He had 72 yards on eight catches today.
  • Griffin had two seven-yard rushing TDs, an 11-yard rushing TD and an 18-yard touchdown reception. He now has eight rushing touchdowns for the season, and 10 overall. He has 30 career touchdowns as a Sooner (27 rushing, three receiving).
  • Griffin had a multi-touchdown game for the second time this season and for the sixth time of his career. The other multi-touchdown game this season was against North Texas.
  • Griffin's 35-yard run in the second quarter was his longest of the season. His previous long was 26 yards against Air Force, Sept. 1, 2001.
  • Antwone Savage, with his seven receptions, brought his career reception total to 103. He is just the third Sooner ever to amass more than 100 receptions. The all-time record for catches in an OU career is 114, by Eddie Hinton from 1966-68. Stephen Alexander had 104 catches from 1994-97.
  • Savage's touchdown reception in the fourth quarter was his third of the season and seventh of his career.
  • Nate Hybl set a career high with 36 completions. His previous career high was 28 versus North Texas on Sept. 8, 2001.
  • Hybl's 347 yards passing in today's game gave him his second 300-yard passing game of the season. He also threw for 350 yards against North Texas.
  • Hybl is just the third Oklahoma QB to have 30-plus completions in a game. The others are Josh Heupel (six times) and Jason White (vs. Baylor two weeks ago).
  • This season is the first in which two different Sooner quarterbacks have had 30-plus completions in a game.
  • Hybl's 48 attempts were the sixth most in OU history. His 36 completions were the third highest in Oklahoma history and his 347 yards were the ninth highest total in school history. Josh Heupel has all the top marks in each of these categories.
  • Roy Williams had his fifth interception of the season in the third quarter. He now has nine on his Oklahoma career.
  • Josh Norman had his second receiving touchdown of the season in the third quarter. It was the seventh receiving TD of his career.
  • Mark Clayton had four catches on the day, giving him 31 on the year. That total ties the record for receptions in a season by a freshman. Savage had 31 receptions as a freshman in 1999.
  • Juan Prishker notched his first career tackle for loss late in the third quarter.
  • Hunter Wall made his first appearance at quarterback in the fourth quarter. His 42-yard run was a career high and was the longest run by an OU quarterback this season. He threw his first career touchdown pass to Savage.
