NORMAN, Okla. - In its final home match of the 2001 season, the University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-29, 1-17 Big 12) welcomes Iowa State (4-20, 1-17 Big 12) into the Howard McCasland Field House for a 7 p.m. show down. Wednesday is also parent recognition night. The parents will be honored at the begining of the match.
Despite losing the first match of the season series, 3-1, in Ames, Oklahoma leads the all-time series with ISU, 35-12, dating back to 1977. Prior to this season's loss, the Sooners had won five straight matches over the Cyclones.
Leading Oklahoma into their final home match is sophomore Logan Pierce. She averages 3.14 kills per game and 2.43 digs per game to lead the Sooners. Junior setter Jessica Barney charters the offense with 9.26 assists per game, while adding a team-best 0.41 service aces per game, which ranks fifth in the Big 12. Freshman Candice Woods holds a team-high 0.86 blocking average, while freshman Gretchen French ranks second with 0.76 bpg.
The Cyclones, coming off a 3-0 loss to Texas Tech, are led by Mandi Harms and Brittany Dalager. Harms averages a team-high 3.04 kills per game, while Dalager paces ISU with 4.09 digs per game, which is second best in the Big 12 Conference. Julie Mitchell leads the defense with 1.18 blocks per game, while Sara Stribe dishes out 10.12 assists per game to lead the Cyclones.
The Sooners end their season with a road match at Texas (15-12, 8-10 Big 12) on Saturday, Nov. 24. Match time with the Longhorns is set for 7 p.m. at the Gregory Gym.
