Nov. 12, 2001

November 12, 2001 - We're now 9-1 after a good, hard-fought victory over Texas A&M on Saturday. We started off a little slow and gave them a 10-point cushion. But we didn't get nervous and we didn't panic. We knew we were at home and we knew we could come back. We reeled off 31 points in a row and I was definitely pleased with our level of play. We played really well in the game. We executed our game plan and didn't have many mental mistakes. It was an all-around solid performance by everyone.

We have to play a very tough Texas Tech team this coming weekend, so we're in the midst of preparing for them. They've really turned it on here lately, so we need to be prepared. We also must be ready to play in a hostile environment in Lubbock. We lost down there last time we played there, and of course, we don't want a repeat of that.

Texas Tech has a lot of ties to OU. The biggest is that Mike Leach is their head coach now. He was the offensive coordinator here prior to taking that job, so we all got to know him. He's a really good coach with great offensive schemes and I'm sure he'd love to beat us.

I saw a few weeks ago that Arkansas and Mississippi played in a game that went seven overtimes. I believe the final score was 58-56, and they started just trading scores in all those overtimes. That is an unbelievably long game. I played in a three-overtime game in high school and I know high school is a little different, but I can't even imagine playing in a seven-overtime ballgame. I was dead tired after three overtimes, so I don't even want to think about playing seven.

I have always been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and when I was younger, I used to always watch them on Sundays and on Thanksgiving. But now that I'm older, I like watching the professional game to see the play of the linebackers. I like watching the speed and the strength of NFL linebackers and I can definitely learn a lot by watching them. Maybe college players will be watching me on Sundays in years to come.
