NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-12, 1-3 Big 12) dropped a three-game match tonight to Texas (9-4, 4-1 Big 12) by scores of 31-29, 30-17 and 30-17 at the Howard McCasland Field House.
"We came out fired up and we passed well in game one," said Oklahoma Head Volleyball Coach Kalani Mahi. "We executed a good game plan and put ourselves in a position to win."
Oklahoma was led by sophomore Logan Pierce wtih 10 kills, followed by junior Denise Griffin with nine kills. The Longhorns held the Sooners to a .055 hitting percentage while they carried at .333 hitting efficiency.
"In game two, we lapsed in passing," said Mahi. "They started serving us short, forcing us to move a little bit, and we were slow to adjust. In game three they were attacking from the middle, and we started a little too late, and that was the difference."
Every Sooner contributed defensively with Griffin topping the squad with eight digs. Pierce recorded six digs while four others had four. Freshman Candice Woods and junior Jessica Barney shared blocking honors with three each.
For the Longhorns, Mira Topic and Bethany Howden each registered 14 kills while Topic led the team with 10 digs. Texas posted 51 kills compared to OU's 34.
The Sooners return to action on Saturday against No. 2 Nebraska. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Nebraska Coliseum.
