NORMAN, Okla. - In its first of three matches this week, the University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-17, 1-8 Big 12) prepares to take on Kansas (12-9, 2-8 Big 12) on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center.
Oklahoma leads the all-time series with the Jayhawks, 37-16, dating back to 1976. The Sooners defeated KU earlier this season, 3-1 (30-24, 27-30, 31-29, 30-28), in Norman. Prior to that match, the Jayhawks had won six consecutive matches.
Leading the Sooners into Wednesday night's match are sophomore Logan Pierce and freshman Candice Woods. Pierce paces the team with 186 kills (2.91 kpg) while Woods carries a team-best .206 hitting clip and 48 blocks (0.75 bpg). Junior Lindsay Hoyt leads the OU defense with 157 digs (2.45 dpg) followed by Pierce with 151 digs (2.36 dpg). Junior Jessica Barney ranks seventh on the Big 12 charts, averaging 0.42 service aces per game to lead the team.
KU's Sarah Rome leads the team with 263 kills (3.81 kpg) and 181 digs (2.62 dpg), while setter Molly LaMere holds a team-best .378 hitting percentage. Rome and LaMere have each served up 25 service aces to lead the Jayhawks. Kylie Thomas leads the team at the net, averaging 0.81 blocks per game.
The Sooners are next in action at home on Saturday, Oct. 27, against Missouri. After the 7 p.m match with the Tigers at the Howard McCasland Field House, the Sooners take on Colorado at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, also at home.
