NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-17, 1-8 Big 12) fell to Kansas State (11-6, 7-3 Big 12) in three games tonight at the Howard McCasland Field House by scores of 30-22, 30-18 and 30-17.
Despite a career-high 16 kills by junior Denise Griffin, the Sooners were unable to pull out a win tonight. Griffin and sophomore Logan Pierce shared defensive highs with nine digs. Griffin also led the team with a .316 hitting percentage.
"I thought we played well in game one but they (K-State) had more fire power," said Oklahoma Head Volleyball Coach Kalani Mahi. "We were able to sideout fairly easily but we didn't pass well."
The Wildcats were led by Liz Wegner, who posted 15 kills and nine digs. K-State combined for 11.5 blocks compared to the Sooners' 4.0. KSU's Jayne Christen registered a match-high seven blocks.
The Sooners are next in action against Kansas (12-8, 2-7 Big 12) on Wednesday, Oct. 24, in Lawrence, Kan. Oklahoma defeated the Jayhawks earlier this season, 3-1, in Norman. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center
