A Closer Look
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Despite three individual victories, the University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team finished second in a four-team meet Friday in San Jose, Calif. The No. 13 Sooners (3-1) tallied a score of 194.025 behind 24th-ranked California (194.400). San Jose State (191.975) and Arizona (190.775) rounded out the field.
Oklahoma was led by sophomores Leticia Ishii, Leah Mueller and Patricia Aoki. Ishii was the top all-arounder for OU, tying for second with a score of 38.925. She trailed only Kara Fry of Arizona (38.950). Ishii also finished in a three-way tie for the top spot on the bars (9.800).
Mueller won the vault (9.850) while Aoki tied for first on the floor exercise with a 9.875. For Ishii and Mueller, it was the second time in as many meets they notched first-place finishes in their respective events.
Oklahoma continues its California swing with a trip to Berkeley for another quadrangular meet against California, Arizona and Utah State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
