Sooners to Compete in Husker Invitational
The Oklahoma Sooners open their fall season against a field of 16 on Sept. 11-12 in Lincoln, Neb., at the Alltel Husker Invitational. Qualifying to represent the Sooners will be Betsy Berry, Jennifer James, Allison Johnson, Wendy Martin and Lisa Meldrum.

The 54-hole tournament will begin on Monday (36) and conclude on Tuesday (18). Yankee Hill Country Club will be the host site for the event. The course is a 6,039-yard, par-72 venue.

"I am really excited about getting started," said Head Coach Carol Ludvigson. "This is one of the best qualifying rounds that we have had and it was very close. We will be playing five Big 12 teams, which will be a good warm-up. We are looking forward to winning this tournament and having a lot of top-10 individual places."

Oklahoma Captures Conference Title
Last season the Sooners won the Big 12 championship for the first time in the history of the conference. The tournament was held in Lubbock, Texas, on April 21-23.

OU also qualified to attend the NCAA West Regional and NCAA Championships. Oklahoma placed in the top 10 in nine of the 12 tournaments in which it competed.

The Sooners also boasted three Academic All-Americans, as well as six Academic All-Conference members.

Experienced Youth
Joining the Sooners this season is Lisa Meldrum from Montreal, Quebec. The 18-year-old freshman has won her age division of the Canadian Junior Championship each year since she was 14. She is a three-time Quebec Junior Champion, as well as the defending Canadian Junior Champion. In high school she also won soccer and hockey championships.
