Dales Helps Canada To 62-41 Olympic Victory

NORMAN, Okla.-- Oklahoma's Stacey Dales helped pull the Canadian Women's Basketball National team to a 1-1 record with its dominating 62-41 performance over Senegal in the second preliminary contest of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday. Dales contributed eight points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 28 minutes of action. The Brockville, Ontario, native also shot 50 percent from the field.

Leading the Canadian team was Cal Bouchard with 18 points, followed by Michelle Hendry with 12 and Kelly Boucher with 11 points. Dianne Norman grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Hendry and Tammy Sutton-Brown collected six boards apiece.

Canada took control of the game early, jumping out to a 16-5 lead in the opening minutes of play. The team also took advantage of its low post scoring as it outscored Senegal, 32-12, inside the paint.

The Canadians shot 43.5 percent from the field (27-of-62) compared to Senegal's 29.2 field goal mark (14-of-48).

Canada's next game will be against France on Tuesday.
