OU Women's Golf Team in Second Place at Husker Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished day one of the Alltel Husker Invitational today in second place out of 17 teams with a two-round 603 at Yankee Hill Country Club in Lincoln, Neb. The Sooners trail leader Nebraska by just two strokes with 18 holes remaining.

In her first collegiate competition, Oklahoma freshman Lisa Meldrum led the way for the Sooners as she fired rounds of 72 and 75 to stand at three over par. Meldrum, who is in second place, trails leader Sarah Sasse of Nebraska by three strokes.

Junior Jennifer James is in third place at five over par after shooting a 149, while fellow junior Betsy Berry is in a five-way tie for 11th after recording a 153 (+9). Sophomore Allison Johnson is 18th after carding a 155 (+11) and junior Wendy Martin is tied for 36th with a 160 (+16).

Other Big 12 schools in the tournament include Texas Tech (third place, 618), Missouri (fourth place, 619), Kansas State (sixth place, 632) and Iowa State (10th place, 643).

The 54-hole tournament will conclude Tuesday with the final round beginning in the morning.
