NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners took one step closer to their 2000 season opener today with the end of two-a-day workouts with scholarship newcomers and non-scholarship walk-ons. The two practices lasted roughly two hours each, and focused on specialized drills by the offense and defense.

"Considering the heat we had today (afternoon temperatures at 100 degrees) the players held up extremely well," said OU head coach Bob Stoops. "Everyone did a great job of keeping their concentration even though it's tough to do in these conditions. I think that it helped most of them spend time here this summer working with our strength and conditioning coaches. However, now it's time for them to step it up a notch when they start working with the varsity on Thursday."

The Sooners will have the next two days off while the freshmen finish academic orientation and the varsity reports. The coaches and players will hold its annual Media/Photo Day inside Memorial Stadium on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Fans are encouraged to park in the lots east and south of the stadium, and enter the stadium at Gate 44.

Practice will resume on Thursday morning at 8:50 a.m. at the intramural fields two blocks southeast of the stadium.
