NORMAN, Okla. -- The 19th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners continued work toward their 2000 season opener with a pair of "pretty good workouts" Tuesday, according to Head Coach Bob Stoops. Staying with the new practice times to beat the 100-degree temperatures, the Sooners worked out twice at the intramural fields just a few blocks from Memorial Stadium.
"We had two pretty good practices today," said Stoops. "I was really pleased with the way we finished today. Our players were focused all the way to the end and that shows we're making progress."
While the practice looked the same to the estimated 200 fans looking on, a new wrinkle was added as sophomore receiver Andre Woolfolk made his first appearance in the OU defensive secondary. Woolfolk, who made 11 catches last year, spent some time with the defense in the spring and now appears to be the first OU player to play both ways in several years.
"Andre did exceptionally well back there," added Stoops. "So well in fact, I think this move will happen. I would like to have him be in a position to get about 20-25 plays on both sides of the ball."
OU will continue practice Wednesday with workouts at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Midway through the evening practice, the Sooners will hold their second mini-scrimmage. OU will wrap up two-a-days on Saturday with Big Time Sports Fan Appreciation Day at Memorial Stadium. A schedule of events follows.
