NORMAN, Okla. - With temperatures hovering around the 100-degree mark, the Oklahoma coaching staff pushed back its afternoon workout by an hour. After just the second day of workouts, it was a trio of newcomers that caught the attention of Head Coach Bob Stoops.

"Renaldo Works has been very impressive," Stoops said. "If he continues to make as much improvement, he's a guy that can really help us. The real surprise is his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He made some catches today that made me think he was a receiver, but it was a pleasant surprise. He was one of a couple of guys that showed signs of ability to help us."

Stoops also made notice of Moses Washington and Terrance Sims. "Not many people know that Moses won two state championships while playing football at Carol City (Fla.) High School. Both he and Terrance are talented football players and continue to make improvements that could help us this fall."

The 19th-ranked Sooners continue two-a-days on Saturday at the OU intramural fields. To avoid the extreme temperatures, the morning practice has been moved up to 8 a.m. while the second session has been pushed back to begin at 6 p.m. There will be no practice on Sunday.

OU will open its 2000 campaign in just 22 days when it faces UTEP on Sept. 2. The season kicks off at 6:30 p.m. inside Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
